ON THE ISSUES

ROADS & SIDEWALKS

Quality roads and sidewalks are essential to keeping our community connected. It is important that Pittsfield continues to systematically maintain and repair roads throughout the Township, as well as expand non-motorized transportation infrastructure, such as bike lanes. Pittsfield Partnership will support measures that make our roads safe for all users—not just cars, but also for bikes, buses, and pedestrians. Improving road safety while allocating for non-motorized transportation will not only better our community, but also put us closer to our sustainability goals. Likewise, as we work to expand access to parks and green spaces, we will continue to prioritize sidewalk/pathway development so that residents are able to take advantage of Pittsfield’s natural beauty safely. Pedestrian safety and accessibility is an important part of Pittsfield’s growth, and we intend to make it a priority for the coming years.

BASIC SERVICES

Basic services are the bedrock of our Township government. That means making sure that our infrastructure is of high quality and is well maintained, and that means balancing our budget so that taxpayer dollars are put to efficient use. Service delivery should be efficient, with consistent trash and recycling services, quality police and fire services, proper water management, and more. We need to give our Park Commission ample resources to increase access to Pittsfield’s greenspace, and continue to look for new ways for community members to enjoy Pittsfield’s natural beauty year round. Most importantly, Township government should be accessible, with plenty of resources for residents to follow the news of Township Hall and to get involved in our community.

PARKS & GREENSPACE

One of the more underrated aspects of Pittsfield is our vast network of parks and greenspace. Over the last decade, we’ve made important strides in increasing the number of and maintaining parks, preserving open greenspace, installing green infrastructure throughout the Township, and investing in renewable energy to make Pittsfield more sustainable. The 2022 Preserving Pittsfield Master Plan promises to continue these strides, with additional investments in parks and recreation activities to make Pittsfield a livable and healthy community. Pittsfield Partnership looks to build upon the Master Plan by further encouraging cooperation between disparate units of government and residents to better our park system, undertake improvements to parks and recreation services with equity firmly in mind, and more.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

Pittsfield Partnership is committed to maintaining budget discipline, spending wisely, and growing responsibly into the future. In addition to following state financial regulations and preserving our AA+ bond rating, taxpayers deserve for their dollars to be spent in an efficient and equitable manner that benefits the Pittsfield community as a whole. We look forward to continuing improvements such as expanded tax payment options, access financial literacy programs, and updated Township software programs so that our finances are handled efficiently.

TRANSPARENCY & ELECTIONS

It is no secret that the integrity and transparency of our elections is threatened by attacks on our democracy. Pittsfield Partnership is committed to being completely transparent with the public in how we administer our local elections. Likewise, we promise to always maintain an accurate, up-to-date voter file of registered voters and distribute absentee ballots in a timely manner consistent with state law. We will work with our Washtenaw County Clerk and other elected officials to combat misinformation being spread about the security of our elections.

PARTNERING TO BUILD A BETTER COMMUNITY

While advocating for continued development is essential to keep Pittsfield thriving, it cannot come at the expense of our township’s family-friendly community. That’s why Pittsfield Partnership is committed to undertaking development projects in coordination with our community residents.  Our team will increase access to housing, expand our public transportation network, protect and sustain our greenspace without sacrificing what makes Pittsfield special. Pittsfield Partnership looks to support projects that adhere to preserving the vision of the Pittsfield 2023 Master Plan (making Pittsfield more accessible, equitable, and sustainable for residents from all walks of life).

There are several upcoming projects that Pittsfield Partnership is excited to continue into next year and beyond. To alleviate the housing affordability crisis, and build a fiscally strong tax base, new housing units are planned in the Township at all levels of affordability.  The Haverhill on Clark affordable housing project began construction in the summer 2023 on the corner of Clark and Golfside roads and we will ensure this project's timely completion. Sustaining a welcoming community while increasing existing housing values is a shared goal.

To keep Pittsfield open for business well into the future, construction is starting soon on an Amazon Distribution Center on Carpenter Road, while several other mixed-use projects with retail components are in the pipeline across our community.   Pittsfield Partnership will evaluate each opportunity to ensure that it is advantageous for our community. Moving forward, we will look to support projects that not only get us closer to our affordability goals, but also that contribute to the accessibility and sustainability of the township in its entirety.

We will not forget about our precious parks, greenways and open spaces.  Working with local and regional partners, our diverse team will have a seat at the table to obtain funding and resources to assist in achieving a sustainable growing community.  Using rain gardens, native plantings, soil drainage solutions and other improvements that fit into our beautiful natural environment, we will stay true to Pittsfield’s core values.  Top priorities include sidewalk gap filling to connect existing pathways and sidewalks, improvements at Wooley, Montibeller, Lillie, and Pittsfield parks while putting into motion the implementation of the site plan for the Waters/Oak Valley Park.
